Aquaculture - the importance of ensuring that we have enough fish to eat!
Tuesday, March 3rd, 2009Total world fisheries production reached a new high of 143.6 million tonnes in 2006 (92 million tonnes capture fisheries and 51.7 million tonnes aquaculture) Of that, 110.4 million tonnes was used for human consumption, the remainder going to things like livestock feed. The production increases came from aquaculture sector which now accounts for 47% of all fish consumed by humans as food. Without Aquaculture there will not be enough fish to supply the workd needs. The momentum for healthy eating is no better experienced than when eating top quality fish, people are recognising more and more the need to have fish in their diet.
